Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

MHMR is committed to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment that represents our community.

It started with a Steering Committee and workgroups, which has evolved into the formation of a Culture and Belonging Office, with the goal of collaborating across the agency on recommendations that sustain a work environment that fosters inclusion and belonging.

MHMR’s We CARE values include Diversity, Equity and Inclusion of all employees and people we serve. 

  • Diversity is the range of human differences, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, social class, physical ability or attributes, religious or ethical values system, national origin, and political beliefs.
  • Equity refers to the fair and respectful treatment of all people.
  • Inclusion is involvement and empowerment, where the inherent worth and dignity of all people are recognized 

Approach to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

MHMR takes an empathetic and non-confrontational approach to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Our pursuit of excellence in sustaining our positive work environment is anchored in education that promotes our person-centered care that is improved through emotional and cultural intelligence, and effective intercultural communication.

Our Journey

MHMR is proactive in creating and implementing education and policies that support increased diversity, improved equity, and accomplishes the act of inclusion to foster a feeling of belonging for all staff members and the community members we proudly serve. MHMR leadership provides and supports collaboration-focused diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.  We created a Culture and Belonging Office that explores and collaborates on policies, practices, and trainings that cultivate a work environment of belonging. The agency’s We CARE values help develop a person-centered, caring culture that is driven by diversity, equity and inclusion strategies focused on initiatives such as recruitment, performance management, leadership development, employee engagement and retention. Our practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion extend into the quality of service that is provided to our community and the people we serve.  

 

This journey is ongoing and does not have an end — it will evolve, continuing to be embedded into our internal and external services as we continue to strive for diversity, equity, and inclusivity in our culture.
