Mental Health Services

MHMR offers help for children and adults with behavioral health (mental health and/or substance use) needs and other serious emotional concerns. MHMR can help you with a behavioral health diagnosis, financial assistance, limited medical care, prescriptions and treatment options.

Step One: Come into any of our walk-in clinics or contact the ICARE Call Center for a phone interview. The ICARE Call Center operates 24/7/365 and can be reached at (817) 335-3022 or (800) 866-2465 toll-free.

Step Two: Visit our Access to Care Clinic (3800 Hulen St., Suite 150, Fort Worth) and bring required documents:

Step Three: In-person screening completed at the Access to Care Clinic.

Step Four: If you are eligible, an appointment will be offered at your clinic of choice. If you are not eligible, other community resources will be offered.

To receive crisis services you must:

  • Reside in Tarrant County  
  • Be financially eligible  
  • Most programs require mental health needs according to the Department of State Health Services target populations (bipolar, major depression and schizophrenia.)

MHMR provides comprehensive treatment for recovery through our Substance Use Disorder Services, one of the oldest and largest providers of trauma-sensitive substance use treatment in Tarrant County and the surrounding area. MHMR offers a continuum-of-care for both adults and youth, including those with limited resources.

The Campus (Arlington and Fort Worth)

The Campus provides treatment for youth, ages 6-17, with behavior/emotional disorders and their families. Services provided are determined by clinical assessment tools and evaluations. Our clinic utilizes a comprehensive service approach with an emphasis on community and family-based care.

Youth Services works with families and youth both in a clinic setting at school, and at home.

Youth Substance Use (Addiction) Services (The Youth Recovery Campus)

Juvenile Justice System – Youth involved with the juvenile justice system may have access to mental health treatment. Case managers help eligible youth access:

  • Psychiatric Services
  • Social Services
  • Educational Services

Access to these services are a provided through a partnership with the Tarrant County Juvenile Justice.

Care House – The Care House (Adolescent Respite Unit) offers short-term, residential treatment to youth 13-17 in a mental health crisis. Adolescents must have low risk of harm to themselves or others. Treatment is also provided for youth with some functional needs that require supervision but does not require hospitalization.

Outpatient clinics are located across Fort Worth, Arlington and the Hurst-Euless-Bedford areas. 

MHMR will assist you throughout your treatment, from developing a service plan, coordinating services, advocating on your behalf and supporting you in a crisis.

Outpatient services are provided according to the Texas Recovery and Resiliency model of the Department of State Health Services.

The Community Center is a mental health drop-in center where people find community, purpose and empowerment in a social setting. The Community Center welcomes people to come together and end their isolation, learn social skills, and begin to integrate into the community.

Activities are voluntary and free for people receiving mental health services in the community. Activities include:

  • Crafts, board games, reading, bingo, and pool tournaments
  • Peer support group meetings
  • Peer one-on-one meetings
  • Basic computer training
  • Community garden
  • Movies and popcorn
  • Frequent holiday/birthday celebrations 
  • Job training

Available Resources:

Forensic Mental HealthFor a family member in Tarrant County Jail.

Mental health services are available to inmates in the Tarrant County Jail. Inmates are identified at the time of booking by MHMR staff, and also may be referred by the jail staff, family and though self-referral. Services include psychiatric evaluation, medication maintenance, suicide risk assessments, casework and follow-up visits.

Mental Health Law Liaison 24/7 telephone support for law enforcement officers in Tarrant County.

This program provides officers with a therapeutic alternative to incarceration. Services include follow-up, health and wellness checks, advocacy and training for local law enforcement. The program is funded by Tarrant County.

Mental Health WarrantsFor anyone with first-hand knowledge looking for an involuntary psychiatric assessment for their family member/friend.

Magistrate Warrants may be issued for those who may need an involuntary psychiatric assessment completed. The Warrant Specialist does this by interviewing the family/friend, writing a letter to the Magistrate’s Judge, and setting an appointment for the family member/friend to meet with the Judge. Warrants are completed from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Outpatient Competency Restoration Program (OCR) – For people found incompetent to stand trial.

Provides competency restoration services, including mental health and substance use treatment, as well as education on the legal system for persons found incompetent to stand trial. The goal is to restore a person to competency so he/she can assist his/her attorney in his/her own defense.

Parolees and Probationers Options – Project Rehabilitation Alternatives for Parolees and Probationers (Project RAPP)For mentally impaired probationers and parolees.

Project RAPP focuses on reducing the rate of re-offending through rehabilitation. Psychiatric and psychosocial services are provided during a client’s probation or parole period. Referrals are made by the Texas Correctional Office on Offenders with Mental or Medical Impairments (TCOOMMI), Community Supervision and Corrections Department, and other sources.

State Hospital Aftercare – Aftercare Services – For clients who have been admitted to state hospitals.

The Aftercare staff monitors and makes recommendations regarding the provision of care while the client is in the hospital. The Aftercare staff will ensure continuity of services by coordinating medication management, psychiatric evaluations, follow-up appointments and service coordination prior to a client’s discharge, as needed.

MHMR Programs:

Crisis Residential UnitFor adults going through crisis.

Crisis Residential Unit (CRU) provides monitored programming — including counseling (in a group and/or one-on-one) and training to reenter the community.

In order to be considered for respite/residential services, adults must be able to do the following:

      • Attend 6 hours daily psychosocial programing
      • Self administer medications and agree to be monitored

Crisis RespiteFor adults and children at risk of psychiatric crisis.

Crisis Respite provides short-term treatment for those at risk. MHMR provides respite and residential services for Men at our Men’s CRU (MCRU) and women at our women’s CRU (WCRU).

Liberty House30-bed transitional housing program for homeless male veterans. Liberty House offers veterans with substance abuse and mental health problems the chance to live and work in a safe and drug-free environment while working on their recovery.

MHMR works in conjunction with several housing agency and organizations in Tarrant County to provide housing and wrap-around services to those living in homelessness as defined by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This system is referred to as Coordinated Access System (CAS), governed by the lead agency, Tarrant County Homeless Coalition (TCHC). CAS allows for our patients living in homelessness to have access to more housing possibilities then ever before.

MHMR has primary care services at our Integrated Care Clinics. This service is designed to help patients reach health-related goals, provide access to health coaching, healthcare screenings, and much more. Our whole-person approach will help patients achieve positive outcomes in both their physical and mental health.

Integrated Outreach Service is a multi-grant unit that focuses on Community Wellness, Behavioral Health and Advocacy. Our Outreach Specialist work with people to address behavioral disparities, and increase linkage and retention in substance use, behavioral health, mental health, sexual health and medical services for Texas residents. IOS helps individuals who desire change to build a foundation for recovery in a stigma-free environment by providing services (and resources) that enhance self-esteem and decision-making skills that improve their overall behavioral health.

Call 817-569-5760 to speak with one of our staff about services or to schedule an appointment for no-charge HIV testing. Results are given within 20-30 minutes.

The LOSS Team provides local outreach to suicide survivors. A partnership with Mental Health America of Greater Tarrant County (MHA) alongside local police departments, the LOSS Team provides local outreach to suicide survivors.

LOSS Team provides support and resources, as well as an installation of hope, to survivors as close to the time of their loss as possible. LOSS Team members are available to provide postvention support and resources to bereaved loved ones after a sudden loss to suicide. In addition, LOSS Team offers individual counseling and Survivors of Suicide Support Groups.

Team members attend trainings three times a year to maintain their skills and receive ongoing support.

If you wish to become a LOSS Team volunteer, you have to be at least two years removed from your loss. Complete the volunteer application and submit it to Volunteer@mhmrtc.org.

Peer support groups provide a safe place to share your thoughts and feelings with others who understand what you’re going through. Individual peer sessions also are available to anyone receiving MHMR services. Certified Peer Specialists provide many services, including:

MHMR offers many services for veterans that need help with sobriety, mental health concerns and housing.

Services Include:

Peer Support – For veterans with substance abuse (addiction), mental health and/or PTSD.

Bring Everyone In The Zone (BEITZ) has 34 meetings at 15 locations per week.

Legal Aid and Veterans Court Mentors

Crisis Financial Assistance – For veterans and their families in time of emergency.

Transitional Housing – To receive support finding increased income and stable housing.

Liberty House – 30-bed transitional housing program for homeless male veterans. Liberty House offers veterans with substance abuse and mental health problems the chance to live and work in a safe and drug-free environment while working on their recovery.

Military Veterans Peer Network (MVPN) – Peers are trained to facilitate groups of veterans recovering from mental illness, substance abuse and/or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Veteran Peers assist veterans in finding community resources, driving veterans to the VA hospital, assisting with job searches, hosting forums and celebrations for veterans and their families and mentoring veterans in the Veterans Diversion Court.

MVPN is an affiliation of service members, veterans and family members dedicated to establish camaraderie and trust with each other, identifying and vetting community resources and, collectively, contributing to the communities where we live.
