MHMR of Tarrant County offers professional and community-based training programs designed to increase knowledge, build confidence, and improve outcomes for individuals, families, and organizations.

Training opportunities are available in-person, virtually, onsite at your organization, and through online learning platforms.

Training Opportunities

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)

Mental Health First Aid teaches participants how to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges, respond effectively during a crisis, and connect individuals with appropriate support and resources.

Classes are available virtually and in person. Specialized training options are available for veterans and for adults who work with youth.

  • Common risk factors and warning signs associated with mental health and substance use challenges
  • Information about depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, and substance use disorders
  • A practical five-step action plan to assist someone experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis
  • Available professional, peer, and self-help resources and support option
  • Assess for risk of suicide or harm
  • Listen nonjudgmentally
  • Give reassurance and information
  • Encourage appropriate professional help
  • Encourage self-help and other support strategies
