OPENING DOORS DINNER
APRIL 25, 2013
BENEFITING MHMR OF
TARRANT COUNTY
It started with traveling with one young woman and over the years has turned into
supporting the community around them.
Nancy and Roy Rimmer this year will be celebrating 52 years of marriage and
decades of volunteering and giving back together. Tonight the Rimmers are recognized
as leaders in opening doors for homeless veterans and people with intellectual and
development disabilities.
Native Fort Worthians, the Rimmers are proud parents to two daughters and
grandparents to one young man. However, their family circle also includes fellow
MHMR Visions friends the Teagues and their goddaughter’s family, the Moores as well
as dear friends the Hales – all of whom are here celebrating with them tonight.
For years Nancy and Roy have regularly supported MHMR, MHMR Visions, Liberty
House, Camp Summit and Make a Wish with their donations and time. From working
golf tournaments to serving on committees such as MHMR’s Public Responsibility
Committee and Client Investigative Committee and from serving on the Camp Summit
board for 10 years to hosting Liberty House holiday parties since it opened, they have
supported people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and helped homeless
veterans seek to regain their rightful place in society.
The Teague’s daughter, Kathy who has an intellectual and developmental disability,
is “the catalyst for getting everyone involved with MHMR and Visions,” Nancy said. “I
owe this all to Kathy.”
And we owe it to Nancy and Roy for sharing their commitment to giving back with their
children and grandchildren.
Since Roy is a marine veteran, it was easy for the Rimmer family to get together to
celebrate the holidays at Liberty House. For the last few years, three generations of Rimmers and their extended family and friends have come together to celebrate
Christmas with the veterans at Liberty House.
“It’s silly for us to give presents to our kids,” she said. “The whole family decorates and
delivers the gifts. Helping homeless veterans is almost self explanatory. I can hardly
keep a dry eye after what they’ve done for us. That was an easy decision.”
And selecting the Rimmers as our Opening Doors Leaders was an easy decision. We
thank them for their commitment to those in need in our community. What started with
Kathy has turned into a legacy of help to many.
