RESEARCH

Research

The Research team is a community-based research center that is embedded within MHMR. The Research Team has been involved in developing and leading evaluations and collecting data for approximately 20 years for federal grant-funded projects, including the National Institute of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the National Institute on Substance Abuse.

Research has a proven track record in conducting longitudinal studies of vulnerable populations. It consistently achieves follow-up rates exceeding 90% even at the longest timeframes (up to 36 months), and is recognized as a national leader of study participants.

Its high follow-up rates are attributed largely to the strong rapport that evaluators build with study participants. The team has won two Honoring Excellence in Evaluation awards from SAMHSA.

Services we provide:

  • Collaborate with community partners on grant proposal development and evaluation
  • Work with vulnerable populations to collect sensitive data
  • Provide assistance with Quality Improvement and in meeting Healthcare Transformation metrics
  • Support project planning, development and implementation
  • Conduct Program Evaluations, Surveys and Community-based Longitudinal Studies
  • Develop databases and provide support
  • Conduct statistical analysis of data using advanced methods

What is an IRB?

An Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a committee established to review and approve research involving human subjects. The purpose of the IRB is to ensure that all human subject research be conducted in accordance with federal, institutional and ethical guidelines. Every institution engaged in human subject’s research conducted or supported by a Federal department or agency is required to designate an IRB to review and approve any research involving human subjects.

What is a Human Subject?

A human subject is defined by Federal Regulations as “a living individual about whom an investigator conducting research obtains (1) data through intervention or interaction with the individual, or (2) identifiable private information” (45 CFR 46.102(f)).
